Believe in Yourself
You matter.
You are important.
You are loving and deep and special.
You are worthy of love and friendship.
Sometimes when life is hard
it’s easy to forget that.
The bullies wanted me to believe I was not worthy
When I was in grade 7 and 8
I was bullied very severely.
Many times I thought that no one loved me or cared for me.
I didn’t think I was worthy of having even one friend.
It was very painful to feel so alone.
The occasional kind word was like receiving a glass of water after crawling through the desert
Sometimes I would receive a moment of kindness from somebody
and it would make a big difference to me.
It was like a ray of light in the darkness.
But the majority of my experience was feeling that I didn’t matter.
I want you to believe you matter
This is why now I spend most of my time encouraging others
to believe that they do matter,
that they are important
and worthy of love and friendship.
They missed out on a good friend
Looking back I can see that I didn’t deserve to be bullied like that.
I was a good person and had a loving heart.
Those people who treated me that way
were missing out on a good friend.
Let It In, Let It In
I hope that you can take in some of this encouragement. You are a good person
and you have a loving heart.
Do your best to believe this about yourself
even when it’s difficult
even when life knocks you down.
Give yourself a big hug and tell yourself:
You matter.
You are important.
You are loving and deep and special.
You are worthy of love and friendship.
